Bevel box/swingarm bearings - supplier

Postby Hayden » Tue Aug 21, 2012 8:03 pm

I`am just about to order two of these ( part No. 33172311091 ) from Motorworks but cannot believe they are £27 each!..

Much as I like the fine chaps at Motorworks, anybody know of an alterative/cheaper supplier?

cheers

Steve

Hi
Try Seager bearings in kings Heath. Either take bearing there or there should be dimensions stamped on bearing.

Price them from your local dealer also , sometimes they're cheaper , afaik from reading threads over the years they are BMW only , unless you use the bush type replacements.
Only part# on a set I have is Fag-NA.10 6465A
I bought a set in '05 for €45 euro , this year they were €72 euro.......
loads of threads like this , Brgs are specials...

Thanks for the replies chaps

Dealer prices are the same as Motorworks as it turns out, I`ll give Seager a bell tomorrow although by size there is nowt on there site that will do the job.

It s not the end of the world, I just feel like I`am being ripped off, a SKF or Timkin bearing is the same spec whether its fitted in a Cb500 or a BMW 11, just the prices quadruple!!

If the dealer prices are the same, then buy from them I guess as BMW give quite a good parts warranty :)

In my experience I have never found a bearing for a bike in a local bearig shop they are always "special sizes" So in general you are a captive market.
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity

It seems strange , given that these bearings are obviously 'specials' and the set up times involved in making the relatively low numbers required, that they bothered. Why not just make them 'standard' and sell them at a reasonable price. I suppose another thing is that they may eventually become obsolete.

Just replaced one from the back hub of a 5.5 tonne Iveco van. £123 including VAT.

Daft bearing prices

Another reason to go for the fit-and forget bush replacement. When I first read of the Rubber Chicken Racing bushes -see http://rubberchickenracinggarage.com/bushings.html -I thought 'Nah, too expensive'

But since then I have had 4 sets of the originals for various reasons, and I would have been better off...

-in the 70s & 80s there were lots more...
