Postby rc » Sun Oct 21, 2007 7:55 pm

hi
anyone with a 1200s lifted their bike up by the sump ,thinking of a wooden block underneath the sump ,then lift with bike lift. has anyone done this without crushing the sump ,after all the gs 1150 r centre stand is a big bolt though the back of engine , i lifted that one on the sump plate . thanks rc.

...yep ; did that (before I had the belly pan of course)...
...no problemo...
...as long as you use something like the BMW paddock stand for the rear wheel...

...the bike will rest on its pipes, not the sump...
Have a nice day !

Top tip (assuming you don't want to spend shedloads on a pair of paddock stands.

Buy (steal) a steel roofbar, whack it under where the centrestand should go and sit it on an axle stand on each side - the closer the better.

HTH :)
