Headlight beam adapters?

Postby el-nicko » Sun Jun 24, 2012 3:09 pm

Re- aligning the dip beam is a right pain on the 11S and the dip/head are seperate lights so what do fellow Trixters do when heading for Europe? Apparently dazzling oncoming drivers can mean a £110 fine .

Don't most bikes have a 'straight' beam pattern, meaning they don't dip either way?

The projector is the dip beam on an 11S, so I suspect that will almost certainly be the case.

Never done it, but my handbook says all you have to do is unplug the bulb, and rotate the mounting surround in preset locators to switch from left to right dip :?: Looks like it should only take couple minutes at the roadside when required.

fairing off and headlamp out i believe, although have never tried it. the previous owner of mine said it was such a ball ache that he left it in the middle position.

Been riding the S over to France for the last seven years and never done bothered to do it, mind you watch out for the French drivers, they all drive like they're p*ssed at night, swerving all over the place as they come towards you [smilie=mf_hide.gif]

That's a very interesting post. Way back in the 80s I spent a lot of time in Europe in a truck and I can speak from experience when I say French Police can be a right pain :x I repeat; Apparently dazzling oncoming drivers can mean a £110 fine. This is because failing to fit adapters or not adjusting the the dip beam renders a vehicle unroadworthy and therefore invalidates your insurance  . Think I'll be fitting an adapter just to be on the safe side  .

Dip beam masking

Postby R-man » Thu Jul 05, 2012 1:26 pm

Since fitting a HID (high intensity discharge) lamp in place of the original dip halogen bulb, I don't bother when going abroad to rotate the dip beam body.

No, I just add a line of aluminum foil tape on the front glass, with its lower edge on the horizontal cut-off line, and that simply clips off the flip up to LHS that is ususal in the UK. What you end up with is a nearly level beam cutoff right across and its 1 min work to apply or remove. Cost less than a penny!
