ME4's

Postby decisivedave » Fri Oct 20, 2006 7:23 pm

Got 7500 miles on the clock and rear ME4's just about shot, and squarer than a square thing after A3(M) commute every day. Is the ME4 a reasonable do it all tyre worth sticking with or has anyone found one they like better?

Also my warranty's up in a month and dear Mr BMW has said for £650 I can get another years worth - cough - would the general conclusion be that it's not really worth it?

Cheers, Dave

PS Having now spent 11 months and 5000 miles on the 1100s I can honestly say I adore it, I think it'll bankrupt me (needs aftermarket exhaust really, baglux, spc services, tyres at least once a year etc etc) but it's the best bike I've had in 11 years of everyday commuting/biking 8)

I can honestly say that MEz2 and 4's are my least favourite tyres!
Get yourself some Michelin Pilot Roads, Bridgestone 020, Conti Road Attack, or something else touring orientated.

Dave,

I use my 1100s to commute into London from Colchester and clock up about 30k a year. I'm new to this forum but there is some sound advice on here to save you £££'s doing you own basic servicing.
I do all my own spannering and £650 would just about cover my costs for a whole year including the two sets of tyres I get through. I use 020's and get about 15k from a front and 18k from a rear, but I am very light on my riding and worry more about MPG than MPH doing this sort of mileage.

Overall I'm very pleased with my bike as its fairly comfortable and eats the miles with ease :D

Cheers,
Alan

Bl**dy hell, "very light on my riding" is an undestatement if you get 18k miles from a rear

If I wanted to get 18k from my rear 020 I would have to carry the bloody bike for 12k, am I doing something wrong?

18k  I think the expression rhymes with 'clucking bell'!

I'd be happy with half that mileage but the reality is closer to a third... S or Fazer

I'm just amazed that anyone can get 6k from a tyre at all.

Am I doing something wrong?

5500 from a rear is the best i ever got and that was an avon azaro st

The norm is approx 2k

18,000 and 15,000,.. bloody hell, ..... I thought I was 'Gentle'. Try Metzeler Z6's, ... I got about 8,000/8,000 out of BT020's and 14,000/14,000 out of the Z6's, .. same bike, same riding style less a couple of trackdays, .. but my trackdays are on the 'slowside of pedestrian' anyway.

Sorry guys I may have got that a bit wrong!

I have checked my records and the front tyre has done approx 15418 miles and is still not shot yet, probably quite soon though another 2k max. Rear has done approx 11401 miles and is not down to the wear indicator yet but getting squared off nicely, probably replace in another 2-3k. The bike is not hammered only on weekends and is used soley for commuting with about 80% of this being motorways. If I used it as a weekend toy then it would get much less tyre mileage.

These figures are real and not some made up B*llocks.
