Hi folks,
I was recently enjoying a blast on my 2001 1100S. Lovely day, great roads, when the gearbox self destructed!!
Rear wheel locked-up @ 80mph, sickening crunching noises coming from below, hanging on for dear life, somehow managed to bring the beast to a halt before it spat me off.
Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar scary experience
self destructing gearbox

You could check http://www.boxertrix.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3934 for a start and go see the vehicle recalls database to see if your chassis number falls into the slot for disintegrating gearboxes!
Glad you survived ok.
In or out of any warranty I think I'd be off to a BM dealer for a "word".

Some details here but only for later models for a very specific period.

Hey folks, I'm delighted to tell you that my 1100S has been fitted with a new 'slick' gearbox at no cost to me. I have ridden 1000 miles with the new gearbox. Looking forward to many more happy miles.
A huge thank you to Darren and all the staff at Vines, thank you to James at BMW UK and a big thank you to Carole Nash Insurance. (their recovery service was outstanding) Finally, thanks to all at Boxertrix for your advice.

That's good news at least. Do you have any clues as to what actually happened?
