Its Back

Postby Humbug » Fri Sep 03, 2021 3:33 pm

Back after a full rebuild and service. Good job too as the collar that holds the spring at the bottom was cracked! A massive failure waiting to happen.
Total cost of £243 with parts and labour

hmmmm shiney 8)
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Its over 100,000 miles old and Colin at !00% suspension thought that it could have been due to fatigue and the potholes in Britains roads
They should be serviced every 10,000 miles apparently!

Can't see anyone getting shocks/forks serviced every 10,000 miles, but have to say - that was a pretty reasonable cost for the refurb.
If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....

I suppose when you have relatively low mileage bikes like some sportsbike riders it is probably once every two years which doesn't seem so bad. When you are racking up miles its a bit steep at once a year although the normal service for the shock would only have been £130.
Mine needed a bit more work, new preload collars, a whole new bottom bearing and spacers as I had to grind the bottom of the shock off to get the corroded lower mounting bolt out, the lower spring collar etc as well as the service. I thought he did a great job for the price.

10,000miles, I would be needing to get mine serviced every 100 (working) days!
But I still have the originals on my 11S......
one day....
although I have had it 4 years, have pretty much only ridden it the last 6 months. Before that it was under wraps and the previous owner didnt ride it much either

That looks sexual. Absolutely beautiful and such great value.

Impressed at 100k miles on your 06 R12s. Mines only got 11k. What a light weight I must be.
