Costs ....

Postby slparry » Tue Dec 15, 2015 11:04 am

As we're on the run down to the Xmas break at work things have tailed off a bit so having a bit of time on my hands I roughly chucked some figures into Excel on K ownership over the 8 years of ownership so far.

Some of the costs are estimates as my big file of invoices and receipts is at home but I think it's a fair "finger in the air" approximation.

The final 54p per mile makes a bit of a mockery of the HMRC allowance of 24p per mile. Hells teeth they allow 20p a mile to run a push bike so they reckon a motorbike only costs 4p a mile more !!!!

As for the extended warranty, seeing as it's covered an ABS pump (£1400), two rear ESA's (£2000 each ), an instrument console (£1100) plus a myriad of other bits I think I'm well in price wise plus it's got Euro wide recovery :)

I pay £230 for my 4 bikes on one policy, and as it's the highest risk, by virtue of performance, I figured a £100 was a reasonable split :D

That`s interesting Steve and that figure of costs in use may sound high to some of us but you do cover more miles than most and use your bike for work? which offsets against other vehicular costs?

Do you consider it value for money?
Fiat Panda.
Fiat Scudo (with speedblock, pipe carrier, reversing sensors, reversing camera, tow bar, some new rust and Fake Plumber logo)

started out with nothing, still have most of it left.

Thankfully Chris I no longer use my bikes for work, but they're still my primary transport.

To be honest cost doesn't come into as it's also my primary source of fun :)

No I don't I did an estimate, I know the K does about 240 miles per tank so did a finger in the wind calculation of how much it's cost in fuel over the years :)

Actually Greg, I put my details into MCN Compare and it came back with just £68.99 Fully Comp for my K12GT, pretty good I think :) ... oh and that was with selecting no voluntary excess too as I never find it makes a cost effective option to be honest, the option of a pillion and SD and commuting use.

I used to have a mini (very highly modified that i worked out cost me £1 per mile, and hat was without the 10,000 mile engine rebuilds or the cost of building the car (about £20K)
that was why i got back into bikes
nowadays my insurance is dirt cheap:
main bike, a 12 plate speed triple costs this.
