We already have them in Essex - Pensioners in Hi Viz vests standing about with Speed guns - They take down the details of speeding cars and pass it on to the Police. If you are a repeat offender the police can eventually prosecute. There are two lots of these pensioner patrols right near where I live so I don't know how many there might be ove the whole of the county.
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity

There is part of me, which understands this - in problem villages where the addition of a permenant speed camera isn't wanted (or justified on cost)......

But - I think it opens a very large can of worms, and the law is already skewed to force people to accept summary judgement rather than seek a court appearance.

Next thing - they'll be setting up small huts at pub car-parks with pensioners with a mobile phone to report anyone who might have had "one over the odds".

An Army of Crinkly Vigilantes..........

A mate of ours recently got a snotty letter to the effect of 'we know who you are, where you live and don't do 40 in our 30 again or else'. (Hampshire near Alton). Does rather smack of the Nazis or Stalins Russia. Otoh if she really was doing 40 in a 30 that's actually pretty antisocial/ likely dangerous...

We had something similar in our village a couple of years ago.

Of course most of the people 'caught' that received letters were people who lived in the village so all it served to do was cause tension in the village focussed on the 'do gooders' with too much time on their hands.

Might as well buy a high horse , wear high viz knickers and shake my fist at bikers and other miscellaneous yobs and plebs in that case.
Or alternatively just cruise around in camper van at 30mph being a mobile traffic chicane while attempting to get to grips with its width difference from the every day Micra.

+1

GTBH, I live on a 30mph road and the speed that some d**kh**ds come down the road at makes me want more speed patrols. 60mph is not uncommon and that is just taking the proverbial.

Well I see it this way, Villagers do get peed off with disrespectful motorists so I see no harm in it. The Police "service" is getting cut and where ever the accountants can see a less expensive way of doing things then this is what happens.

I am a member of the Village Green Preservation Society

I am thinking also about the guy who is known as the Turdinator catching out feckless dog owners.
Fiat Panda.
Fiat Scudo (with speedblock, pipe carrier, reversing sensors, reversing camera, tow bar, some new rust and Fake Plumber logo)

started out with nothing, still have most of it left.
