Off to Isle of Man

Postby GerryB » Wed Aug 19, 2015 7:34 am

First thing tomorrow morning me and g/f setting off for nearly 3 weeks .

Spanner for a mate , riding a TZ 250 in Classic TT and a Suzuki GSX in the Manx GP .

So , apart from a lap or two every day on the R1100S , it'll be fiddle fingers on the race bikes .

A few days no doubt to sight see as well .

Thankfully weather tomorrow looks dryish .

Watch out for police speed camera on the North side of Kirkmichael (on the brow of the hill after the Total filling station).

It's still a 30mph there (DAMHIK  )

Have fun!

I went to Jurby last year , but to be honest , the sunday is normally my only "day off".

When you've had your nose buried inside the guts of motor cycles (aged ones) trying to repair , tweek , bodge , its far more attractive to ride around the view sites north south and west , enjoying the hospitality , while recharging for another hectic week.

Spannering as one can imagine there is a looong day every day , once the riders get back from practice , so much prep work and lists to make for morning. Then early morning wheels out , off for tyres etc etc ....

Enjoy the Island . This year I'm sleeping in Glenmaye , so hopefully more rest than tenting in the paddock ..

Well , what a busy 2 weeks .

Over 1000 miles ridden, not a single problem.

The time went very well , till the last lap of the senior.

A huge wind came up on the mountain , and my mate ( the guy I spanner for ) was one of 6 seriously injured riders.

He had a big one at 33rd milestone .

He was airlifted to Liverpool , where his prognosis appears for a positive recovery .

Sadly one of the crashers has died .

But , before all this black cloud came down on us , my cuzzie and I had lots of fun , riding laps and riding around the island on our "off " days .

Riding around the Gooseneck .

Here I am almost having to brake to avoid running into him .

Well, I think the next big trip will be across to my apartment in Jacarilla in Spain .

Already booked up for the TT next year and looking forward to it very much :D
Thanks for the report and good luck to your mate - the last lap of the Senior was cruel this year.

Pete Symes was very very seriously hurt .

Fractured Skull ,
Collapsed lungs and broken ribs
Several smashed vertebrae,
Both legs, multiple breaks
Both arms multiple breaks .

Last night's report from his sister .

Message from Pete's sister , yesterday's report ...
Looking very positive .
Hi Everyone,
Pete has been more alert and aware today in between his sleeps. He has been breathing for himself more intermittently over the day and we have even had some smiles. Next surgery will have to wait until infection is cleared and temperature is down. A TV has been placed by the side of his bed and his nurse said that he has watched some today. We think he was also trying to 'people watch' in the unit! A good day with another step forward for our amazingly strong Pete. XX
