One owner R 1100s`s?

Postby boxerscott » Mon Apr 06, 2015 10:36 pm

Out of interest how many of us with a one owner 1100s? me for one, 04 rwb bcr. 25k Ok not enough miles I agree. I am busy putting it back together with the intention of parting company for a more dedicated sports bike. Trouble is I blow hot and cold about parting with this bike as at times I feel the same" comfort" as I did when I saw it in Alan Jeffries showroom.

The depreciation must be mashed out of this model now?

Sometimes I hate it, lousy paint system to engine really pxsses me off, clunky first gear, lousy low gear characteristics, crap rear indicators, Hernia inducer getting in and out of garage.

Think I just may have to keep it and buy the sports as well till I am convinced what is right thing to do.
:?

Notice the odd original bc coming up, Dealers asking £6k. Not that special really and overpriced IMHO

In 2014 of our collection only the Diavels got used, this week I have ridden the MV and the the 'S. Initial thoughts on the 'S were exactly as you say .... heavy, clunky.

But riding it back from it's MOT the old girl reminded me why it still remains part of the family. I like it and I'm keeping it.

I hear exactly what you are saying but the high ride position and weight must go against the 1100 bcr as a gentlemens collectable??

Well ... I'm struggling with this logic. OK, the R1100S is heavy to push ... but at speed AND stationery a sports bike with its seat above the hands is more challenging if you are not fit enough in terms of core strength.

The R1100 S will always be more comfy then an R1/GSX/CBR/Italien .....

So what do you want ? Your collectable that you have, a Sports Bike that will be worse to live with, or something totally different?

ALL hard choices. Or a simple stay at home solution. :)

This what we are all coming to as we get older and more creakey

There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity

aye it's a nice choice really and I will probably call it wrong but my trusty Beemer is going after the Borders run. Not quite ready for a Zimmer on wheels just yet! :)

From your original post, I assume you mean how many of us bought the bike we still have (as opposed to bought a one-owner bike, which means we are the second owner)?
Me for one - coming up to 30k miles now (had others which kept the miles down on all the bikes). I will probably keep the bike as there is not much which excites me on the market and I don't want to spend £15k. It pretty much does all I want it to do. I was hoping the new RS would be a lot lighter but it is heavier so I am staying with the 1100S for the forseeable future.

That is at least two of us then :) with similar mileage as I think mine is nearer 30k than 25k, will find out for sure when I remember where I put the clock unit.

I'm struggling to understand what is the problem with manhandling an R11 ?
I find they are light and easy to manoeuvre compared with almost any other 1100 cc bike particularly sports bikes with high seats and no lock and gallons of cooling water and traction control gizzmos.
Certainly much easier in my ( once ;-( ) overfilled garage than any of these : Honda VF1000, ZX-7R and K100rs

I'd have to disagree there.....

Big bulk/weight, and highish bars............

Try a 1200s, hp2s or R-1 - a breeze!

I'm finding the 1200 easier to move around, but had to take the bcr out to the road outside the house and just firing it up I know it's a keeper. Just need (want?)a Gs and I have all I want - there answereed my own question

I've a one previous owner '99 bike but I empathise with the hot and cold feelings about twice a year now... I did try unsuccessfully to sell it a couple of times over the last nearly 12 yrs and almost 100k miles (in my hands )(110 k miles total) of ownership . Nowadays when it falls out of favour I just park it for a few weeks and ride something else for a while
