I'm also looking for for tank protection and added grip for the knees, the front section of the tank is already showing some wear, so I'm looking for something that will cover/protect the main contact points but not look messy with the pattern.

Image

Considering clear stompgrips for the side and something like this for the front:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carbon-Petrol-Fuel-Tank-Pad-For-BMW-R1100S-R1100GS-R1100R-/300745651418?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item4605d674da

Problem is it's hard to visualise what they'll look like, can anyone advise which stompgrips match well with the R1100S and has anyone got any photo's they'd be willing to post of a front tank pad on a bike with the square R1100S pattern?

This is mine this week, she's just reached 28000 miles. I have had a tank protector from day one to protect against my jacket zip. But IMHO I think pads on the side of the tank detract more from the look of the bike than a little scuffing. So, I do lots of polishing on the sides of the tank and like the look of it as it is . It's the same with my MV and I climb all over the tank of that when I'm playing with it.

As for Baglux .... I'd rather go to the dentist. That is to say I'm not a fan.

Well I've just ordered one of these 'cheapaschips' pads for the pillion seat cover 'cos being short in the leg I'm forever catching it with my boot when I climb aboard.

It's all VFR (DCT) round here now. STILL missing my 1100s tho.

Thanks for all the responses :!: :D

Tend to agree with you on looks, but I would appreciate a bit of extra grip, so am prepared to compromise a little.

Ned, many thanks for the link and especially the photo, like the front pad but not sure about the sides, I think I'm leaning to towards clear stompgrip for the sides, anyone else gone for these?

Any pic's?

Kaze, this is what I bought last week. Cheap as chips and sticks like sh1t to a blanket. Just a sod to align properly due to its irregular shape - almost got it right :) Didn't want to be covering up the tank pattern with an opaque protector. About 300 miles and some blazing hot sunshine later (honest) it's not lifting at the edges or owt.

Hi Mike

Thanks for the photo:!: might not be perfect but it shows me exactly what I was hoping to see, i.e. how the Pad matches with the pattern :D

Thanks for the link Dai :!:

Stompgrips

Postby Kaze » Wed Aug 08, 2012 8:52 am

Here's a pic of the Stompgrips, they don't do a kit for the R1100S so I went down to Demon Tweeks and one of the lads behind the counter checked through the various kits until we found one the suited. Went for the Honda 03-06 RC51 kit, as you can see from the photo it fits in well with the shape of the tank.

Crikey another R registered R1100S and its not one in the series that I traced as press bikes R156RRD to R165RRD (mine). When you had it did you know that it had been registered before they were made avilable to the public (september 1998 therefore S reg)?
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity
