Day trip to Islay video

Postby Paul » Wed Jul 18, 2018 7:25 am

Just back from my week in Scotland with Archie/Alan which I tagged onto the end of the excellent Jedburgh weekend. Here's a short video I made about my day trip to Islay, principally to visit the Ardbeg distillery.

cheers,

Paul
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

The shot of me riding along the road was done with my drone autonomously tracking me. I flew it over an empty field by the side of the road and it can follow a target travelling at up to about 30mph, keeping a constant distance away from the target. I sped the footage up so it looks a little faster, and cropped the footage in when editing the shot, so it appears closer than it actually was, but don't tell anyone

Nice video Paul - guess you'll be hacked off at the new CAA rules for drones coming in on July 31st though.

Not especially. They are all common sense and will hopefully weed out the small percentage of drone users who fly irresponsibly.

Great drone shots, need to get mine on a follow me trip. I didn't realise they would look so good. Slow lap of Cadwell speeded up would be ideal, I wonder.........

Congratulations, it's very impressive Paul. Having seen your film must plan a trip to Islay. Why no footage of the ride into the Whistle Stop cafe on the second film? :D It would have been very atmospheric.
Also enjoyed your film from last year's Flash tour which follows your most recent vid on You Tube.
Where to next?

Cheers

If you remember, it was tipping it down with rain which means the drone can't fly, and the lens on the "GoPro"-a-like cameras I have get splattered with rain, obscuring the picture.

Next stop is the Cotswolds for a long weekend with my better half, Helen, and then France for a couple of weeks. Both those will be in the c*r tho...

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Mitch,

It’s a DJI Mavic Air, filming in 4K, which I then export after editing the footage in 1080p. That gives me some room to crop footage without losing resolution in the 1080p export.

Cheers,

Paul
