Elan Valley ... etc

Postby slparry » Sun Jun 02, 2013 7:07 pm

Yesterday I took the KGT to Bala>Dolgellau> Machynlleth> Aberystwyth > Devils Bridge>Elan Valley > Rhayader > Newtown > Oswestry and back home exactly 200 miles and a fantastic day out with very little traffic. I love the Elan run as it's so scenic and the road from Rhayader to Newton is ... um more fun than a box of frogs :)

Today, Barney (the guy with the B-King at the Welsh weekend) called me to say he was taking his BCR for a run and would I like to join him. We did Ponderosa>Bala>Lakeside Cafe Tan y Grisau> Dolgellau> Dinas Mawddwy and home via Oswestry way .... 150 miles .. of fun

The sweeping S bend at Bethel (Popsky will recall it being the one I went underneath him on the first corner in an overtake :D ) we came across a young Polish guy extracting his Hayabusa from the scenery ..... score one to the Welsh countryside as it looked a but poorly.

We went over to Aberystwyth today for sausage and chips on the promenade.

Took in the Cymystwyth mountain road on the way there and Abergwesyn Pass on the way back.

Epic ride - fantastic weather - and the R11S just re-affirmed my view that it's one of the absolute best real-world sportsbikes money can buy.

You have a very short memory Steve, that is almost identical to last years route, except you missed out the a483 from Newtown to Crossgates, and we didn't tour the reservoirs but went over the mountain road instead.

Too much cider I reckon

Agh I remember it well Steve, our 1st Trixter weekend and we wrongly thought it would be pipe and slippers  on the ride out, Boxered and the rest of you quickly dispelled that thought, bloody good time though.

I think we both accredited ourselves well in the following rideouts

P.S. and all never exceeding the stated limits

hahaha pipe and slippers are to found "elsewhere" I escorted one once when the Yorkshire section were visiting north Wales, jeeze I never knew motorcyclists could ride so slowly, they even got overtaken by an old dear in a Nissan Micra (I kid you not!!!)... for those who enjoy 40 mph ride outs

of course as you say we always stay within limits!

Ooh, aah [completes suturing of lateral torso] :D

Hi Phil. Knew that would illicit a response along those lines - tbh, was expecting it from the big man. You beat him to it.

All ok here. Bike back on the road after needing a few quid spending (no, not all repairs).

Ha! Don't talk to me about that POS  Only been trying to replace the crank seals. LH cover's been on and off 3 times now. Latest attempt = kick start jammed solid halfway through its stroke. God knows what I've done this time? If at fourth you don't succeed - chuck a cover over it and slam garage door in disgust...
