VFR1200X Crosstourer, Any Good?

Postby Bikerhoss » Sun Nov 24, 2013 7:24 pm

Didn't know where to put this, so just plumped for here. I hasten to ad, it's not me who's interested, I think they're feckin ugly and have always found Hondas too bland in the long run for myself, but.... a friend has asked me if I know anyone who's got one to get an opinion other than from Honda's website or the press, He's tempted by the current 0% deals.

Anyone got one or know someone who has :?: Anyone got the 'new' VFR non X model that can say what the engine is like?

Cheers, Hoss.

Mate of mine had one for an extended test ride and found the engine to be the most dull bland thing he'd ever ridden

Mate of mine has the VFR1200, he is a lover of IL4's so this is a major departure for him, he absolutely loves the power but is less enamoured with the lumpy-growly low down v4 rumble that others call character!
make of that what you will :)

Ditto slightly similar to that as one of my pals recently went from a ZZR1400 to a new Viffer 12. Absolutely loves the Honda (and with an Akra can it sounds amazing) and much prefers it to the Kawasaki. When the bike was first released I thought 'eh?' to the looks of it but it's really grown on me of late - Grantham Honda had an all-black one in recently which looked gorgeous.

Keep meaning to get a demo of the X-Tourer, will wait until the Spring now.

yeah, I have to say that if I had to replace my R12S the VFR1200 is the only bike that I would seriously consider! V4 1200, shaft drive, and 175hp! what's not to like? ( ok, it has been hit with the ugly stick once too often, but then, so have I  )

Hmm, I read that figure in one of the mags, can't remember /find which one it was though, a quick Google shows it at 127kw but I can't find a reliable conversion table, but Visordown has it at 172bhp, so I think I'm near enough.
Just to confirm that I'm talking about the VFR1200F and not the Crossdresser thingy which may be detuned?

Aha, found it, it was motorcycle Sport and leisure issue 635 aug 2013.
they quote the power at 170bhp and not the 175 that I quoted, sorry

On a dyno?

The VFR12 does look like it has scoleosis though. Poor thing.

Rode the 1200 crossdresser in scotland last year and it was a bloody good bike. Plenty of punch and in that guise runs approx 128bhp i think. Lots of smooth torque.

Here's me making a mistake, just agreed to buy a zzr lol

my mate had the 1200f auto
then got the 1200x in auto

he said the f was about 150claimed bhp
and the x was about 115-120bhp, they're never exact
and the x has aftermarket can on it.

the f was a bit sharper than my XXbird to 140 then i passed it flying.
the x is on par with my 1150rt, very little between them.

sold my XXbird, and might go for a F to replace it. i quite like them. but would need the rear shock upgraded, as they're prone to bottoming out a bit.
my mate prefer's the x now,, but i think after riding with me a few times, he wants to get home, rather than be brought home, so wan't to cool it down a bit.
reliable, yes, in a year he's near 30k on it, and never missed a beat.
better than the new triumph explorer 1215's
i know 5 with them, and they're cutting out in stupid places, like overtaking, and country corners, ,
not good.
