Retirement.

So I’ve not posted for about two years as I retired just as Covid came along (Feb 2020) I’ve still got my R1200RT (2009). We managed very little riding in 2020 but in 2021 we got as far as Wales in May but I rode home early to Essex to get myself admitted to hospital with another Pulmonary Embolism (similar to 2017). I felt the pain and knew what it was so came home.
Later in the year Three of us headed to the Grande hotel Du Parc in Florac in the Gorge du Tarn- a long way to go but stunning riding and scenary. Sadly the bike broke down and Green flag refused to help. Couldn’t hire a van or even a car. So came home to Folkestone on the backseat of my mates 1250 GS. - trust me they ain’t made for a 6foot pillion - nearly 700 miles in two days. Wife and I went back the following week with a moto lug trailer and brought it home. It’s bevel box developed massive wheel wobble - I suspect a broken bearing. I replaced the whole unit with a second hand unit and all is well again and now clocking 40,000 miles.

TT, glad to hear you are ok now (and the two wheels). Just a couple of quick ?. What was the problem with Greenflag? Only ask because we’ve just changed over to them. And secondly how did you find the motolug worked out, been thinking about getting one for a few years now.
Cheers,
Bob

At least you're back safe and sound. Spill the beans about Green Flag - might be one to avoid

What cover did you have with Green flag and why did they refuse to help.Been with them for years, always been brilliant. They cover large motorhomes and old vehicles, but you have to take out additional cover for abroad.I do it through the Caravan & Motorhome club.

Hi guys we bought Green flag to cover me in all vehicles two cars one bike we also bought European cover. When I called them from France it seems that the only car that is covered in Europe is my main (named) vehicle - and that is that case you find it buried in the small print. Would have been cheaper to have taken a a separate one trip cover.

Motor Lug was lent by a friend. His one can be built with two channels for two bikes or one central channel. I only took the bay for a single bike. Having built it once at home I transported it in the back of our XC 60. (You cannot tow it empty). It all fits together in about 10/15 minutes and is held together with 10 pins and clips. The channel tilts and you “drive” the bike up or get friends to shove. It tows really well no bouncing no rattling or squeaking no snaking - we towed at 120kph for 600 miles. Then at 60 for the last 100 from Dover to home. Brilliant bit of kit but expensive.
