If it's printed with the right material, it can last as long as the original.

I plan to 3D a similar model too. I just need to find the right air filter to put in it.

Looks similar but 3D printed. Don't know how long it would last

At 77€, I think it's quite expensive. I hardly believe it takes 80+ hours to print it.
I will design a rough model to estimate the print time.

This is the ad.

It should last - as it isn't pulled too hard with the tie-rods either side of the filter unit.

Yes, I have done a rough estimate of the print time (model to be refined).
Even with 100% infill, I get only 24h print time for this part. 77€ is definitely overdone...

Don't lose sight that the guy is in business. (it may be that it is a 'home-business, since he is unlikely to set up a kosher outfit to reverse engineer parts) - but he is looking to make a profit.

I understand your point
But I don't like when I see people make profit based on lies to make their copy (it's not reverse engineering) look better than what it is really.
The guys says it takes 82 hours to print --> bullshit. It's only a third of that.
Printed from high temp ABS --> bullshit again. All ABS plastics are nearly the same. There is no special High temp ABS.
The actual cost is 35 € max (if I take reasonable figures to calculate). So, his margin is 120%.
I know people are delirious about everything touching motorcycle, but do you think it's a good deal ?

Well - forward engineering is from official engineering drawings

Reverse engineering is either by profiling existing parts, patterning existing parts, or 3D printing existing parts.

It is important to distinguish between bike-mates clubbing together to facilitate parts supply, and someone who is doing it for profit. If you are in it for profit - then it is normal to charge as much as the market will stand.

He will either sink or swim

Do I think it is reasonable? If you can get a superfilter (type) for less than £100 (including the filter element) then it might be a good deal for many. Is his price justification valid? I’ll take your word that it is not - but, let’s say it is just marketing blurb (like most companies do)

I wonder if the bar-riser maker (can’t remember the name) is doing it for altruistic reasons, and what in actuality - his profit margin is?.

But - If you can produce the units for less, while still making a profit - I am sure plenty on this site will appreciate it. (Then turn your hand to an induct), but I think as with all these things - do it without pissing off the original developer.

On the technical side, I don't see how he can adapt the K&N E-4450 as he advertises.
His adapter has clearly an oval shape, while the E-4450 is a round filter. Do you think the filter is capable of deforming enough to fit the oval?
I don't know this type of filter very much.

I don't think so - I think you need an oval filter element.

Then we need a totally new design.
Because as WasOnceBroken wrote, K&N is only selling remaining stock for the original filter. Once the stock is sold out, it's over...

My attempt :

I will try to print a prototype next week. Unless there is a major issue, the price would be around 40€. I'll keep you updated... :bounce:
