OK... I know a bit about those, as my MiL loves them. She bought an MGF VVC brand new in 2001. Didn't do too many miles / year in it - but it was always serviced on time by the main dealer. It needed a new head gasket at 30k miles. To be fair, after that, it didn't seem to rack up too many bills ove...

If it's DOT 5.1, then it's completely interchangeable / compatible with DOT 4.

Early-ish Mk2, then - so you miss out on the pop-up headlamps. Avoid the 1.6, they're under-powered in later UK cars (110bhp in the Mk2, I recall - and only 90bhp in the Mk1)... check for the condition of the sills (be aware of cheap repairs) and rear arches (Take a magnet!). There's also an issue w...

DOT 5 or DOT 5.1?

That's a very small but very important detail.

5.1 is interchangeable with DOT 4, but DOT 5 is silicone based and really should only be used in a clean system built for silicone fluids (usually race cars / bikes - it's not really a road fluid).

I'm convinced a tidy Mk1 MX5 is what you want... and yes, I'm biased. (On the other hand, I used to hate them, until I tried one, then I 'got it'). Mostly because they're so cheap, there's no reason to get rid of your Boxer - this time of year gets a tidy example for under a grand, with even the bes...

Copen is 67bhp and FWD. What's the point? And weighs 750kg Edit: and revs to 8000rpm. Still only 67bhp, though. And if you're planning any long trips, 8k rpm will get tiresome very quickly. Plus... a Mk1 MX5 is only 940kg in base trim, probably 1000kgs for a 1.8 with a few toys (electric windows / ...

The S2000 will drive you insane with the revvy VTEC engine. Great for track days and a bit of B-road fun, useless for touring. TTs are about as unexciting as a 'sports car' can get. Just a Golf in pretty clothes. Copen... tiny little washing machine engine and next to no luggage space, so not really...

Big furry black muffs, that's what you need.

Once you've stuck your hands in a furry black muff, you never look back :)

I had a Dell in my last job.

Correction, I had 3 in 4 years, because they were regularly breaking.

The job before that gave me a T42 Thinkpad, which would survive a nuclear blast and I currently have an HP Elitebook.

I know you prefer new, but I'd look at a refurb Lenovo Thinkpad myself.

I absolutely adore that R100S.

I know I sold my old airhead... because I wanted to replace it with the 11S, but... I think I may have to get myself another one. Probably an R100RS, though.

Well, that was 40-ish quid down the drain.

What a boring, dreary, and pointless experience.

It took longer to walk to and from the car than it took to walk around the show.

MAG are a bunch of over-reactionary idiots. It's very hard to take them seriously and I don't believe they do the cause of motorcycling a lot of good in the eyes of the politicians. As for the lack of young new riders - look at the price of cars vs bikes and quite possibly the relative insurance, to...
