did you take the battery tray out? http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0422&mospid=51677&btnr=61_2579&hg=61&fg=21 No Steve, didn't take the battery tray out. Beginning to wonder if I'm actually going 'nuts', as I'd been working on the bike over two days, first...

Be still my aching sides  Not from inside the engine Al, haven't had it to bits that much. TBH, only had forks out, bodywork, calipers and air duct off, tank raised to get at the battery and err, not much else really.

Nuts

Finished putting the bike back together at the weekend and noticed these two nuts left over. Don't remember removing them at all and can't seem to find anwhere for them. They're M6 thread and 1cm long. http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss137/daveg2812/nuts_zpsf2f2a85a.jpg Has anyone any idea where ...

MikeB had one for sale recently, chrome plated too, but has since sold his bike, don't know if it went with it.

Thanks folks. Original it is then. Motorworks definitely have them, it's just that the Yorkshireman in me baulked at paying 6 quid with carriage for a bolt like that. (Ha! Though I've just spent nearly £60 on brake pads I thought I needed.......but didn't). Oh well, they'll keep. That will be looki...

Re: Rear shock lower mounting bolt/nut

As above, have somehow misplaced it on a strip down. It's m10x1.25, 65mm long. Question is, can I use any bolt as a replacement as long as its decent quality and the right size, or should I buy from the dealer. Wouldn't have thought it'd be expensive from the dealer, but I don't pass it every day. ...

Now if you want a bunch of muppets deal with TalkTalk. Absolutely hopeless. Now, I know they get a right slagging from all and sundry, but I've been with Tiscali/TalkTalk for years, and I've never had to contact them about anything, it always just works. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones. (Thread hij...

Thanks for the replies. Yes Dave, the bike will probably be ready to ride this weekend apart from the hugger brackets, which I belatedly sent away for powder coating. That said, next winter will probably be more of the same, but think I'll change most of the relevant nuts and bolts for stainless then.

Yes Steve, it makes great sense, and is kind of what I was thinking when I said fit the wheel and tighten everything afterwards.
Thankyou :D

Fork alignment

This might be a daft question, but having removed my forks to paint the lowers, on putting them back, I'm faced with lining them up correctly, i.e., so they point forwards, which, to my shame I never considered till now. Is there some trick to this, trial and error, or tighten up the clamps after th...

That's the thing about stainless, or at least my perception of it. My bikes pretty tidy, but some of the bolts/fasteners are starting to let it down a bit. I'm tempted to go for stainless replacements where I can, but am wary of what to use where. There seems to be conflicting advice whenever this c...
