Normally just the left side. The tensioner on this side sits on top of the barrel, which means the oil drains from the tensioner when the engine is stopped. The right is under the barrel and therefore retains the oil. Its very common, and although some say it does no harm, that rattle you hear is th...

As Mr P said you need the upgraded one available here: http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=6&Q=tensioner&spPage=4 You also need to click on the link to the other part that goes with it and a crush washer. Easy job to do, theres a long winded 'merican guide here: http://www.adv...

moved the bars and new tensioner fitted

As its been pi**ing it down for the past 3 days I finally got round to moving the bars above the yokes. Easy job, lets hope it takes a bit of the weight of my wrists.
Also fitted the upgraded left camchain tensioner, what a difference, no more rattle on start up :D

Is this the type that just replaces the plastic front cover, or is it one that covers the silver painted metal front cover?
I didn't think you could get those but wouldn't mind something like that to protect the paint work on my BCR.

Yes, its just a caged ball bearing and your right in that its of a deep grove construction. I would agree that it is a somewhat flawed design from the start and would easily have its life reduced by incorrect shimming. From various threads on other sites it looks like its fairly common for the cage ...

It is a little unusual in its set up. The fact that it uses the caged crown wheel bearing and a taper bearing suggests is not a common set up. As you say, if your mechanic has pressed it onto the crown shaft without heat then damage could have very well been done. I think you mentioned that it has b...

I know you are happy with your guy doing the work, but it really should not fail that quickly. He is definately heating the bearing up enough so it drops straight on? At the very most a gentle tap should finally seat it. The outer cover should ideally be warmed as well to give it an easier time when...

If you mean the earlier Brembo badged calipers as opposed to the BMW badged (but still brembo) calipers, no they will not fit. The fork leg mounting lugs are different.

Why not just open it up and take a look? Rear wheel off, then undo the allens around the circumfrance and pull the cover off (dont drop it!). As you say the bearing is a taper type. Its outer ring will remain in the casting, but you can get a good look at it. There is not a lot of load placed on tha...

I have been and done (for now) the Harley thing. I bought myself a 1200 Sportster Sport complete with V&H exhaust, K&N, AP Racing brakes etc. It was lovely to pose around on in summer, but as an allrounder like the 1100s it was in a different league. Its wheel base seemed to be huge and hand...

This gives a good guide of what you could be expected to pay:

On top of this will be the couriers (usually parcelforce) handling fee of £8

Hope this helps.
