I might be being daft here, but did you just turn the ignition on, or did you start the engine? On my R12S, when I turn the ignition on the light does what you describe and doesn't come back on until the engine is running.

I can understand folk wanting a warranty replacement for a duff battery. Thing is, the chances are that they will replace it with another inadequate, probably cheaply constructed battery. £70 seems a bit steep for a battery. Is it made from unobtainium?

What is the problem with this battery? I haven't had a problem with mine so far (oh sh£$t what have I said). To be honest, if mine goes, I'm not gonna fart around with a warranty claim, I'd prefer to pay for one that isn't gonna go phut.
