Daft bearing prices
Another reason to go for the fit-and forget bush replacement. When I first read of the Rubber Chicken Racing bushes -see http://rubberchickenracinggarage.com/bushings.html -I thought 'Nah, too expensive' But since then I have had 4 sets of the originals for various reasons, and I would have been bet...

Scruffy magnesium
I'm thinking its time I cleaned up the 'Magnesium' rocker cover on my 02 1100S, which has begun to show corrosion getting past the tatty paint. The tatty areas seem to have a primer under the silver paint. Whilst doing a service (77,000 now) recently I saw that the mating face is heavily pitted, whi...

Gatting throttles to balance
Steve - I know you reset the valve clearances - a must-do. So might be worth first cleaning the cable pulleys on the inside face of each TB. Tease the cable out of the pulley groove, and run a clean rag or pipe (if you know a pipe smoker) cleaner in its place to get rid of the crap that causes the c...

Horn switch -tricky
Yeah the supposedly 'ergonomic switch gear' is not a great fit for many of us. And as I have quite small hands, I tend to roll my L hand up around the grip to operate the horn...its a pain, but I find myself 'covering the horn' more often on approach to many hazards than end up using the brakes...so...

LED tail light
Great job! From the pictures I reckon the unit I bought has around half the LEDs so puts out much less light than yours. I took the easy and 'spensive route 53,000 miles back and have had no problems - but I do wonder how much longer it will last. Your alloy sheet method must be good for soaking awa...

Dip beam masking
Since fitting a HID (high intensity discharge) lamp in place of the original dip halogen bulb, I don't bother when going abroad to rotate the dip beam body. No, I just add a line of aluminum foil tape on the front glass, with its lower edge on the horizontal cut-off line, and that simply clips off t...

Brake caliper piston faces
The 'plastic' disc is ceramic, and fragile. They are designed to limit heat transfer from the pads to the piston and hence the fluid. It pays to never prise the piston away from the disc without first taking the pads out (or even better remove calipers form wheel), then you have just enough room to ...
Sensor replacement
Another source for HES: Cata Dan in Romania supplies all sorts of goodies for Oilheads, and makes these things http://boxer-upgrades.webs.com/apps/webstore/products/show/1855593 I have not needed one but trust his workmanship, after buying 2 x of his throttle repair kits for my 1100S.

I'm in smug mode
Hey Trixers, I am so glad I bought a pair of these from Lennie for my 1100S! Much improved torque low-end and mid-range Better urge up to at least 6,000 revs (I never use more, and only on accelereration) Much nicer bike to ride, with surging reduced and smoother throttle response Better tank range ...

Tyres
Have tried several types on my 2002 1100S. As I do around 11,000 miles p.a. my general idea is to make the 'old slug' fly without changing tyres so often, so always go for touring tyres Sold s/h by BMW dealer to me with brand new Michelin Pilot Road (the original) and they were errm, OK...not great....

New to riding a Boxer

I look forward to swapping tips, and meeting up with some of you - I'm based in Suffolk (b...
