I use Oxford throwovers and put the straps under the seat, this works ok with a pillion or you can keep the seat cover on without a pillion. just make sure you protect the paintwork.

Does anyone have an unwanted left hand mirror gathering dust in a garage/shed that would like to live in Devon, went to adjust mine this morning and it did literally come off in my hand. :(

I am in the same position as you with a remote garage, go for a solar charger (£50 for a 4.5 volt model) they come with permanent connector leads for the battery. once you have done the fairings once its a doddle.

Oxford do a solariser which they say will do the same job as an optimate, I have one but it does not seem to be quite up to job (could be because of the alarm?)and maybe my battery is past it. there are other solar chargers on the market and I will be looking to get a new more powerful one myself af...
