Now I know that I'm not alone
It is sort of a relief to find that this happens to people other than me. My bike is limited to track use and so it gets nothing but a caning. The transmission has about 47,000 miles. During the last two race days, in fifth gear it would occasionally display what is described at the top of this thre...

Cheap paddock stand
I use a stock R1100S centre stand, but needs some modification, and uses the standard plugs (pivot pin in BMW speak) that fit into the C-frame; Mount the plugs directly into the C-frame using a large diameter washer to keep them secure. This will increase the distance that the pivot bosses of the ce...

Re: Advice Needed Purchase R1200S
Twodear and Richard...thanks for your observations and input...first I do not intend to do any touring or two up riding with the R1200S if I get one..may keep my '89 FJ1200 for touring and my wife really doesn't like riding "stoker" so my riding will be solo..big issue is that I have neve...

R12S
Phil, By "western roads" do you mean straight and flat? Also how many miles do you intend to ride every year? Do you sometimes carry a pillion? IMHO, straight and flat for a long time, or with a passenger for even a short time, is not the R1200S forte. I have ridden an R12S and compared to...

If it is only power through the cable then it should really only need two wires, not four. I can't see it needing separate switched and permanent feeds. Did you test for voltage with the springs depressed? There could be something not making contact once they are retracted into the plug as the curr...

Sounds like it's not making contact with the unit. What sort of plugs/sockets are they? Can you bend any tabs out to take up any gaps? Hi! There are four spring loaded pins on the cradle that line up with contacts on the back of Rider. The contacts all bear marks that show the pins are connecting. ...

Rider mounting
The TomTom Rider is obviously for motorbikes with handlebars and not clipons. I've got one on my R1150GSA and the supplied mounting kit seems to hold Rider in place just fine. Now If I could only get the ba*tard to charge. TomTom have shipped two mounts (which has the charger circuitry inside) to no...
Techlusion
Have a look at this link. http://www.techlusion.com/ Click on the Motorcycle tab and you should see several links regarding BMW. The sites has really good installation instructions and a support forum for tuning tips. I bought my 1030 unit on fleabay for $136. The company is Dobeck and they are base...

The ABS spacers are just shim stock to position the sensor set in the final drive casting. A few sheets of shim stock and a scissors will work to set sensor-to-ring clearance. I would think that spacing out the brake disk would be heaps tougher to accomplish, and with a far greater degree of risk if...

While it may have been restricted to early model GS Adventures (mine is a 2003) the final drive bearings were the subject of a recall. We were told to check for play in the rear wheel and there was. When checking it out the final drive bearings in mine had in fact collapsed. The dealer performed a n...

Ade B, I don't envy your task but admire your ambition. All bolts in the exhaust system all came off okay for me but obviously the climate is somewhat different here. Breaking off the transmission isn't that hard once you can see it, but all the stuff mounted on top of it (battery/motronic module/ai...

I can't comment on the nature of the failure, but if the problem is indeed stripped splines on the transmission input shaft, I have two spare transmissions. Both transmissions came from wrecked bikes; the housings are cracked and therefore unusable as complete assemblies but the components are okay,...

I would have thought that the GP250s would scream round the outside whilst you held the heads off the tarmac?? Ade. HA!...
