Re: R1200ST - Nice, low mileage, wanted

A few bruises, that's all! :) I purposely bought mine as a non-ABS model, to avoid any potential issues. Only the very late STs got 'normal' ABS - that's the system that, should the ABS fail (warning light on instrument panel) you still have full braking, just no antilock facility. The earlier STs (...

Re: R1200ST - Nice, low mileage, wanted

There's never many to pick from! I had mine for over 6 years, would still have it now if it hadn't been written off in an accident in France back in May. Interestingly, my insurer paid out more than what all but one of the STs are advertised for on eBay/Bike Trader. I wouldn't get too hung up on low...

Bargain battery.

Just bought an Exide 12-19 gel battery from an eBay seller - listing has it at £49, seller accepted my offer of £40, including delivery. Not a bad price really - BMW want an extra £134.90 for one, although theirs does come with an extra 12 months warranty and a BMW logo on it! It's listed for ...

Re: If you MUST take a Fireblade..........

That's one seriously big tailpack! It's true what they say though....buy a big bag, and you will fill it. I think back to my first forays abroad on the bike, and I managed with a tailpack no bigger than a 12" cube, plus a small tankbag. Now I have 2 RT panniers, a topbox and a small tan...

Hold the speculation....it's official! https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/bmw-warns-over-sales-profits-150134950.html "BMW has issued a profit warning as a cocktail of new emissions controls, higher costs from dealing with faults and an intensifying trade war put the brakes on the upmarket...

Re: Tail tidy - ridiculously small plate

Remove the plate altogether - same offence as a tiny plate being displayed, but nowhere near as much demonstrable intent! As you say, there's nobody out there enforcing anyway, take your chances and if you get a pull....it must have fallen off. :)

Re: Rear Plastics Removal (R12S)

Glad it helped! :) I've had a look for any info on the no. plate light, but can't find anything unfortunately, sorry.

Yep, cracking day for it today - my RT's got a rear drive oil seal leak, so I'm in dry dock too!

Re: Rear Plastics Removal (R12S)

Just happened to have my workshop CD-ROM open! It shows these pics and says to note the rear light retaining pin - could it be that? These are the pics for the r/h side, so presumably there's one on t'other side too!

Re: How long is a modern Beemer designed to last ?

I wonder what the accountants / marketing dept's / company executives stipulate to the engineers ? The accountants, I've no doubt, control all, because the whole raison d'être of the business is to make money. The engineers will be told to have something made that can be expected to last just beyon...

Re: How long is a modern Beemer designed to last ?

I think they're designed to last up to the point where the warranty expires. Why go to the expense of designing something that will last for donkey's years? There's no point any more, because the days of the vehicle consumer buying something to last a long time are gone - bikes, cars...people swap t...

Re: Help!!

I don't know much about the S, but I think a few owners have had issues like yours that have been caused by wiring faults behind the ignition switch - a simple way of checking would be to wiggle the wires while the ignition's on, if things light up....bingo! Apparently, the wires are quite tight whe...

Glad they landed safely Steve, and glad you're enjoying them! :D Sharing though?!

If I'd known I could have bought extra work with them, I'd have filled the topbox and ridden over - how many for a full service??

Re: Coil part numbers

Received them, fitted them, finish a bit rougher than bmw's but who's going to look at them? They weren't having the isolating rubber piece so I removed the old ones and fitted, might silicone them on one day when I have time. Took them for an hours spin around the neighbourhood annoying the neighb...

Re: Coil part numbers

As you say then, quite possibly 'genuine' ones that have....ahem....walked out of the factory back door! :) Do report back - if they do fit the earlier bikes, I'll order a pair too. All we need now is some similarly-priced lowers!
