Yeah, the adjuster ring on the rear shock appears to be made of putty. WTF do the make the adjuster of some sort of plastic yet the locking ring is metal???

Mine is starting to break up so I'll point it out at the service.

Have you considered Ventura? After years of hard luggage on BMWs, VFRs and Triumphs I now use it on my 1200s and it's brilliant. The rack is easily detached when you don't want it on the bike.

TheTriumph engine is a peach...really smooth yet torquey as well. I sold my 1100s and bought an ST when my local BMW dealer wouldn't give me a decent price on a trade in for a new BCR.
